Welcome to Chile

In June 2015, the Basel Committee announced that Chile would be hosting the 19th International Conference of Banking Supervisors (ICBS) that will take place from November 28th until December 1st, 2016. This important meeting congregates senior banking supervisors and central bankers from more than 100 countries as well as representatives of international financial institutions.

As Superintendent of the local banking supervisory agency (SBIF) and also as a participant of the Basel Committee, I feel honored for the trust placed in our country in to organize this very important meeting.

I also want to thank the words dedicated to Chile by Mr. Stefan Ingves, Chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and Governor of Sveriges Riksbank, when this announcement was made. He said that this is "a reflection of their commitment (of Chile) to be an active participant on the Basel Committee and to continue their adoption of global regulatory standards".

We hope this Conference will facilitate the discussion and decision making on key supervisory issues and that it will increase the cooperation of international banking supervisors.
